In about four months time Jämsä-Jukola orienteering event will gather a broad range of orienteering enthusiastics together. At this point almost one thousand teams have registered and the amount of runners exceeds the amount competing in 1978 in this same area. This event taking place in June will be the biggest sports event in Finland this year and most certainly an exciting event for all participating no matter if you are a competitor or a spectator.
Jämsä-Jukola is an international competition. At the moment teams from 13 different countries are registered. During the race foreign languages will be heard – Italian, Russian, French, German and Czech, just to mention some of them. Amble group of competitors will leave behind not only a jolly atmosphere but also a positive impact on the local economy.
Jukola orinteering event is an interesting event. One of the most fascinating elements is the fact that the world-class athletes compete in the same series and on the same routes than the ones just doing it for fun. Naturally, goals differ; most of the competitors do not think about the trophy but challenging themselves and an interesting adventure in the woods in a nice company. In the beginning of the year the local newspaper Jämsän Seutu will publish short stories about some of the teams. Let’s meet them all in Jämsä in June!
