Jämsän Retki-Veikot is an active orienteering club from Central Finland. It is located in the municipal area of Jämsä. The club is founded in 30th of October 1949 and consists of over 300 members. Jämsän Retki-Veikot was selected as an orienteering club of the year 2000 in Finland.
The Club is an active organiser of competitions and was selected as the host of the Jukola relay in 2013. Weekly orienteering events are kept 30 times during summer season starting in the end of April. Year 2008 there was 130 participants in every event in average. In the club, there are active search for new orienteering areas which provide up-to-date maps for every event. In the past, Jämsän Retki-Veikot has hosted a number of championship level competitions in both foot and ski orienteering.
According to the strategy of the club, there are a big effort to support both developing top level orienteers and a possibility of active hobby without any competitive goals. The are groups of coaching to different ages of orienteers and a top level group. One third of the club members compete in the national level. All year long, there are open practices for all members of the club.
Jämsän Retki-Veikot provides also quality youth activities (“Nuori Suomi” price in 1999 and 2002). In an Orienteering school for children of ages 6-12 they can practise a variety of orienteering skills eg. map and campass use. For the youngest group there are also a dedicated, easy practice in weekly meetings.
