After the Venla relay Vesa Tiihonen, the course planner, looks back on the competition.
– It was quite a surprise that there were so many mistakes on the first leg. The pressures are huge and that explains the mistakes, Vesa Tiihonen thinks after the relay.
There is lush undergrowth and more hills than usual in Rytökylä, we even talk about the Savonian mountains. That’s why the Danish victory was a surprise to Vesa Tiihonen.
– In Denmark they have got used to a good terrain with thin forest. The Danes didn’t make mistakes and had good route choices.
Tiihonen hasn’t got negative feedback on the course so it seems that everything has worked fine. On the other hand, Tiihonen thinks that the runners may have been so excited after the competition that the feedback may come later on the following day.
And how does the course planner feel now?
– You might imagine that I’m the director of a summer theatre with over 5000 actors in the play.
