You can almost see Puijo Tower, the famous landmark of Kuopio, from the site of Kuopio-Jukola.
The first wooden 16-metre-high tower was built on top of Puijo as early as in 1856 for people to admire the scenery. The second tower, made of red brick, was built in 1906 and was 24 metres tall. The present 75-metre-high tower was erected in 1963.
Puijo Tower was the first in Finland with a rotating restaurant, offering a breathtaking lake scenery 224 metres above the surface of Lake Kallavesi. On top there is an observation deck.
Puijo Tower is a very popular tourist spot. In addition to the tower, there is a large nature conservation area with hiking tracks in summer, a winter sports centre, a golf course, a Finnish baseball stadium and an old farm called Konttila in the Puijo area.
Puijo Tower is 75 metres high.
