The delegation of Kuopio-Jukola visited the President in Helsinki this morning. The President thanked for the invitation and accepted the task of the patron of Kuopio-Jukola with pleasure.

President Sauli Niinistö is familiar with the Jukola Relay, and he has attended the event earlier. He also watches the relay on TV with interest. He will be present at Kuopio-Jukola if not unable to arrive due to his presidential duties.

The delegates of Kuopio-Jukola presented the President and his spouse Mrs Jenni Haukio with the official event shirts and the history of Kuopion Suunnistajat orienteering club.

The President is well aware of the international nature of the Jukola Relay as well as the popularity of orienteering. The Office of the President of the Republic of Finland also have their own team in Jukola. Last summer their placing was 600 – 700.

The President was also very interested to know how the land owners feel about organizing such a big sports event.
