“… Ja nyt läksi joukko sekä
nuoria että vanhoja,
naisia niinkuin miehiäkin,
jahtivoudin johtamana,
pitkänä rivinä urkkimaan
ympäri metsää…”
Aleksis Kivi: Seven Brothers
83 years old Antero Pyökäri, his two daughters, his son-in-law and his daughter’s son Eetu participate in Jukola with their team named 3polvea, ”3generations”. The motto in their team t-shirts is from Aleksis Kivi’s novel ”Seven Brothers”. Eetu’s mother Katariina found the motto for the team, and she is also the one, who invented the name for the team. In this year, 15 years old Eetu can participate to Jukola for the first time. In addition to the family members, there are also experienced orienteers from Piikkiö in the team 3polvea. Eetu has a long history with Jukola, because this is the twelfth time, when hi is here.
– Very first time I was in Jukola when I was one-year-old, Eetu tells.
Orienteering has been Eetu’s hobby since he hasn’t at school yet. In this summer, he has been training longer distances and night orienteering with his father. And there is a very good reason for this.
– Last summer, after seeing Jukola’s start, Eetu said, that he wants to run the opening leg in next year, Eetu’s father Marko explains.
Antero Pyökäri started orienteering just in the adulthood. When his daughters were little, he used to do orienteering with them, but he started to do it more seriously and participate in orienteering competitions only after retiring. For Antero, this Jukola is just his seventh.
– I really wanted to run the sixth leg, but the others considered, that the fourth leg would suit me better. And of course any leg is okay for me, Antero tells with a twinkle in eye.
After two years, Eetu’s little brother will be fifteen, and then it is possible to gather almost the whole team from family members.
