– Especially in these days, when we can see so much confrontations between the people in our everyday life, this atmosphere in Jukola village makes a real impression. It would be great to get at least a little piece of this sense of community, volunteer spirit and enthusiasm to our society in general.
In the speech he held in Jukola ceremony, Karhinen emphasized the fact, that the forest and the communality have always played an important role in Finnish identity.
– We are not afraid of the forest. On the contrary, it gives us harmony, joy and consolation, and moving in the forest helps us to improve our fitness.
Karhinen got an invitation to take the patron of Jukola relay at last autumm. He felt very happy about the invitation and he has followed the organizations of the relay since then with a great pleasure. He has participated in the voluntary communication work of Jukola in Twitter.
Karhinen concluded his speech in Jukola ceremony by thanking everyone: orienteers, volunteers, landowners and partners. And as in the role of the patron, he expressed also his hope, that the members of the Jukola family will behave untill the end of the relay as nicely as they have behaved so far.
