As registering for Louna-Jukola at higher fee ended at midnight, we can now confirm the final number of participants: a whopping 18,104 competitors altogether in Venla and Jukola relays. The number of registered teams is 3,191, of which 1,411 in the Venla relay and 1,780 in the Jukola relay. The previous record set at Valio-Jukola (16,667) three years ago is broken by a margin – or should we say a leap – of up to 1,437 orienteers.
The number of those registered at higher fee is notable, as the number was “only” 17,717 when registering at normal fee ended at mid-May. There are well over 14,000 Finnish participants, and the growth compared to previous records is primarily due to Finnish teams.
A new record of 21 countries are represented, including Iceland and Luxembourg for the first time in Jukola. Single participants from considerably more countries will certainly be present, but these are not regarded in the statistics.
