Arrival at the competition centre

The arrival to Lappee Jukola will be carried out according to the organizer’s guiding and signposts.

The vehicles must be parked at marked areas. The footpath between the competition centre and the parking area goes underneath the busy railway of Helsinki-Moscow. The railway underpass must absolutely be used!

The competition centre is located in Raippo west of Vaalimaa highway number 387. The competition centre will be opened on Friday, June 17th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

The organizer will arrange a bus transportation from Lappeenranta to the Competition Centre. Schedule and route are presented on Lappee-Jukola’s website’s arrival sector.

 

Signposts will start from:

Visitors from south: Crossing Vaalimaa at highway 7 and road 387
Visitors from west: Before crossing of highway 6 and 13 (exit 50) Selkäharju
Visitors from north: Crossing of highways 13 and 6 (exit 50) Selkäharju
Visitors from east: Crossing of highway 6 and road 387 (exit 52) Ihalainen

Signposts will be on place on Friday June 17th, 2016 at 07:00 a.m. and they must be followed.

People arriving from the direction of Helsinki it is recommended to arrive via highway 7 from Kotka. There is a massive road construction taking place on highway 6 between Luumäki and Lappeenranta which will lengthen the time of travel.

 

Club buses

Only the clubs which have made a reservation and paid in advance by May 15th, 2016 have reserved parking for club buses.

The club buses drive to the competition centre according to the normal signposting. Close to the competition centre there is a specific bus signposting. Parking ticket must be visible on the windscreen inside the vehicle until exit. Signposting and instructions given by the event officials must be followed. A railway bypass must absolutely be used when walking between the club bus parking area and the competition centre.

Club buses staying at the area parking area are directed to parking where the loading/unloading will be carried out. Buses not staying at the area will be directed to their own loading/unloading points nearby the parking area. The traffic officers will direct the buses to their own areas.

 

Arriving by car – Be prepared for traffic jams and moderate walks

Please be prepared for traffic jams and book enough time if arriving by car. Please note that there can be a long walk to the competition centre from the parking area (approximately 3000 m).

Parking fee for cars is 15€ (note: organizer will be checking the parking tickets when leaving the competition centre). You can buy your parking ticket from the Jukola shop. If paid at the parking the fee is 25 €, make sure you have the exact change (cash only). Note that cars which already have the parking ticket ready have a separate road out without queueing. Please do not leave any valuables visible in the car.

Follow the signposting and instructions given by the event officials as the parking area is wide and it will be filled according to a plan. There is a transportation of heavy packages available from the parking areas. About half of the walkway is of asphalt and half of gravel.

Please use only parking areas provided by the officials. Parking is prohibited elsewhere in the area and will be monitored. Incorrect parking causes a safety risk.

Cars with VIP and Media parking permit will be directed to a designated, own parking area. Only pre-posted parking permits (VIP/Media) entitle the driver to use this parking. Please keep the permit clearly visible on the windscreen upon arrival. From VIP and Media parking it is approx. 1200 m to the competition centre.

Lappee-Jukola traffic information is available on YLE Radio Suomi radio station 98.5 MHz. as well as in the event site and its surroundings on Jukola Radio 107.100 MHz. There will also be traffic announcements on Jukola social media.

 

Campers and caravans

If you are arriving with a camper or a caravan there are parking spaces only for those who have reserved and paid in advance by May 11th, 2016 via registering system online, according to the instructions given in the event invitation.

Campers and caravans should follow the general signposting. Close to the competition area they must follow the signs with an additional picture of a caravan. Keep the parking ticket clearly visible on the windscreen inside the car until exit. Signs and instructions by the organizer are to be followed.

The parking area opens on Friday June 17th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. There is a septic tank disposal provided. The distance to the event centre is around 1600 metres and the railway bypass must absolutely be used. Campfire and barbequing is prohibited outside the camper / caravan. It is forbidden to lower the shields and to use front tents. The use of aggregates is prohibited during nighttime between 10 p.m. and 07 a.m. You must pay attention to the safety distances between vehicles.

 

Bicycles and motorbikes

There is a separate parking place for bicycles in the competition centre. A parking area for motorbikes is about 1200 meters from the competition centre. Motorbikes must follow the general signposting and closer to the competition centre there is an additional sign of a motorbike. Parking of bicycles and motorbikes is free of charge.

 

Exit from the competition centre

The exit from the competition centre takes place according to the signposting and instructions given by the event officials. Note that the organizer will be checking the parking tickets when leaving the parking area.

 

Safety and emergencies

Accidents: Contact the first aid point nearest to you (see First Aid).

Serious incidents: call first aid station tel. +358 40 463 2449 and act according to the instructions below:

  1. Explain what has happened
  2. Prevent further accidents
  3. Check the patient’s condition
  4. Check the breathing
  5. Move the patient to the correct position
  6. Danger of death call 112
  7. Arrange guidance to the location

In case of fire in the competition centre or in the parking area: act according to the instructions below. Inform the Security tel. +358 40 462 3742

If you notice a fire:

  1. Warn people at risk
  2. If possible, limit the fire (fire extinguisher)
  3. Call 112
  4. Guide the fire department to the location

Disorders: Contact the closest safety guard or call the Security tel. +358 40 462 3742. If the situation is threatening, call 112. Do not put yourself or others at risk.

First aid

The main first aid station with a doctor and first aid personnel is located at the rear end of a barn close to the Vaalimaa highway 387.There is a clear guidance to the main first aid station. There is also a first aid point with first aid personnel near the finish and changeover areas.

The sign for first aid is a white cross on green background.

In the terrain there are two first aid points during the Venla Relay and three first aid points during the Jukola Relay. These are marked on the competition maps by purple crosses. First aid kits are also available at refreshment points. The number of the first aid on-call is printed on all competition maps.

It is advised that all competitors take care of their vaccination before the competiton.

Safety of valuables

There is no specific safety deposits, take good care of your valuables.

 

Use of fire

It is strictly forbidden to make an open fire in the competition centre and in all camping grounds inside and outside of the tents except at places separately marked as campfire sites. It is also prohibited to use camp and gas cookers, gas grills and tent stoves. Obeying these instructions is monitored.

 

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in the competition centre (based on smoking law 5. chapter 12 §) except in the places designated for smoking.

 

Alcohol

Consumption of own alcohol is forbidden in the competition centre. Taking alcohol outside the Beer tent area is forbidden.

 

Preparing for the competition

 

Info

Info is located in the competition centre alongside the main footpath next to the festival stage. Handing out the team material and returning of maps is taken care by the Info. There are also training maps and model orienteering maps for sale.

 

General information board and guide pole are located close to the Info. The result boards are separately close to the wind shields.

Training and model orienteering

There is a model / practise orienteering available during the competition weekend on the east side of the competition centre. The maps are offset printed. The course markings, control descriptions and control setup equal the ones used in the competition. There are flags and codes in the control points in the forest. Maps are sold at the Info and Jukola shop (7€ / each). The control points are marked in the forest June 16th from 5 p.m. onwards when there will be an evening relay event organized in the area. Parking for this event is not at the competition centre, follow the guidance.

Competition maps containing all controls are sold at the Info from Sunday June 19th approx. 9:00 a.m. onwards (10 € / each).

The competition terrain will be placed under a training and practicing prohibition right after the competition has ended in order to let the nature recover.

 

Runners bank

There is a Runners Bank available on Jukola website where teams can seek runners to replace missing team members or a person without a team can seek a team for him/herself.

 

Wind Shelters

Wind shelters of the clubs are to be set up at pre-booked tent sites assigned by the event officials (see Competition instructions). Camping in the wind shelter tent ground is forbidden.

 

Forbidden areas

Forbidden areas in the competition centre are marked with fences and signs/tapes (see also chapter Out-of-Bounds Areas in the Competition Instructions). Only competitors running their leg may enter the competition terrain. It is also forbidden for the public to enter the competition terrain. Trespassing on the forbidden areas may cause disqualification of all teams in the club.

 

Following the competition and the programmes

Starts, changeovers and finish can be viewed and photographed in the competition centre in an area reserved for spectators. In the competition centre there are video screens showing what is happening in the competition centre and forest. Top teams’ progress is followed up with GPS devices.

Competition speakers can be listened to in the competition centre and its surroundings in Jukola radio (frequency 107,100 MHz).

 

TV and radio

Live broadcast on finnish TV is on Yle channels. The Venla Relay is shown on Saturday at 1:45–5:30 p.m. and the Jukola Relay is shown on Saturday from 10:30 p.m. throughout the night until 7.15 a.m. on Sunday morning. On the internet both relays can be followed up from the start to the end as a live broadcast in Finland via yle.fi/areena. Live radio broadcast of both relays is on Yle Puhe channel (96,7 MHz).

 

Web TV

Both relays can be followed via Web TV for a fee. Web TV broadcasts are available around the world excluding Finland via internet. The links to Web TV can be found at Lappee-Jukola site on Live services. In case of problems please contact sales@traxmeet.com for assistance.

 

Programmes

The opening ceremony and the Jukola flag-rising take place at the festival stage on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The prize giving ceremony for the Venla Relay and the Jukola ceremony start at the festival stage on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The prize giving ceremony for the Jukola Relay and handing over the Jukola flag take place at the festival stage on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. For more details, see the Competition Instructions.

 

Forest church

Forest church starts on Saturday at 9:00 p.m. and is located on the model orientation area east of the competition centre nearby the VIP-parking. You might want to take a camping stool or something else to sit on with you. The forest church is organized by the Lappee Lutheran Parish. Forest church is open for the public during entire event.

 

Children’s world

The Children’s world is located on the northern side of the competition centre next to the Jukola gate and incoming walkway. There are a lot of different activities for children on Saturday and Sunday, e.g. crafting, scouting and orienteering. Further information in the programme.

Please note that there is no babysitting in the Children’s world.

In the Children’s world there is a place for nappy change and heating up baby food.

 

VIP guests and media

Reception for the invited guests takes place alongside the incoming walkway (a big barn next to the field).

Accredited media are welcomed in the media tent.

 

Food and beverage

There are a restaurant, cafés, grills, ice-cream stands and a beer tent serving Lappee-Jukola competitors and spectators. In addition, there is a Finnish Defence Forces’ cafeteria ‘Sotku’ in the competition centre. The opening hours can be found in the section Opening hours.

All food of low lactose and filling the finnish Heart Symbol nutritional criteria. There are also non-lactose, milk-free and gluten-free meals available. All meal ingredients can be found on Lappee-Jukola internetsite before the race weekend. On Friday the food selection might be limited.

You can pay with cash or with most commonly recognized bank and credit cards (see Bank and Post). Largest accepted bill is 50 euros. Most convenient is to provide the exact change.

The rush hours at the restaurant are around the starts and after Venla relay finishes. At those times, please be prepared to queue.

You can avoid the queues to the counters by buying the food tickets well in advance before dining.

All cashiers accept contactless payments on purchases under 25 €.

 

Drinking water

There are six (6) drinking water stations in the competition centre and in the accommodation areas. There are water taps also in the start & changeover and in the finish area. It is forbidden to wash sports gear in these drinking water stations. Sports gear may be washed only at the equipment washing point near the sauna which is marked on the guide maps.

 

Accommodation

The competition centre is opened and signposting to camping is in place from Friday June 17th at 10:00 a.m. Take good care of your valuables. The use of open fire (including smoking), gas grills, camp and gas cookers etc. is strictly forbidden except at places separately marked as campfire sites.

 

Camping Areas

Camping near the competition centre takes place in pre-reserved, numbered tent sites. The camping areas for tents are located in the field at the competition centre and in terrain located between the parking areas and the competition centre. The sizes of tent places are 10 m x 10 m. The reserved tent places can be viewed at Lappee-Jukola website, on information boards of tent sites and at the Info. If available, tent places can be purchased at the Info after the event centre opens.

 

Tents set up by organizer (Rented Tents)

Pre-reserved tents set up by organizer are located north of the competition centre between the parking areas and the competition centre. Tents are numbered with signs next to the tents. The reserved tent places can be viewed on Lappee-Jukola website, on information boards of tent sites and at the Info. The tents are not heated. Further information from the Info.

 

Bus service Lappeenranta – Jukola – Lappeenranta

The Jukola bus is a good way to arrive at Lappee-Jukola. The bus leaves at Lappeenranta Kisapuisto parking and the final stop is at Jukola close to the crossing of Vaalimaantie and Raipontie. From the final stop there is about 1200 m walk to the competition centre.

Taxi

There is a taxi stand located in the proximity of the crossing of Vaalimaantie and Raipontie at Raipontie 2, Lappeenranta. It is marked on the competition centre map. Telephone number for ordering taxi is 0200 60 400 (price: 1,08€ / call + local call fee 1,01 e/min).

 

Jukola shop

Jukola shop offers official Jukola products from shirts to pins. Also post cards with Jukola’s own post office stamp and special Jukola stamps are available as well as local handicraft.

 

Bank and postal services

Restaurant, Jukola shop and Info accept cash and major bank and credit cards like Visa, MasterCard and Eurocard. Contactless payment option is also available for purchases under 25 €. The biggest accepted bill is 50 euros. There is no foreign currency exchange or possibility to withdraw cash in the competition centre. The closest ATMs from the competition centre are located in Lappeenranta city (Supermarkets Prisma: Puhakankatu 1, Citymarket: Toikansuontie 4)

The post office is at the Jukola shop.

 

Toilets

All the toilets are marked on the competition centre map. All the toilets include hand disinfection liquid.

 

Showers and sauna

Washing area with showers and a sauna is located on the east side of the competition centre.

On Friday it is possible to wash up at the washing area from 6 p.m. until 9p.m. Sauna is not available on Friday.

The sauna is warm from Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until Sunday 4:00 p.m. The sauna is reserved for women on Saturday between 2:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and for men after this. During the Jukola Relay there is a smaller sauna for women 11:00 p.m. onwards. Sauna fee is 3 €. The sauna ticket can be purchased from the Info or paid at the sauna in cash. A seat cover is included in the fee. The sauna stoves are new.

A separate washing possibility is reserved for men during the Venla Relay and for women during the Jukola Relay.

Be environmentally friendly and use water sparingly. It is forbidden to use own soaps, there are biodegradable washing liquids / soaps at the showers provided by the organizers.

 

Washing sports gear

There is a separate washing point for sports gear close to the showers and sauna. Washing sports gear elsewhere is forbidden.

 

Battery charging

There is no battery charging stand in the area. You can purchase power bank spare power sources at Jukola shop.
Lost and found

Lost items can be inquired at the Info where they will be stored until Sunday 4:00 p.m. After that all items are taken to the Lappeenranta Police station, Raatimiehenkatu 22, 531 00 Lappeenranta. Inquieries for lost items: +358 295 437 030. The office is open Mon, Wed and Thu 9:00 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 13 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

 

Environment

One of the core values of Lappee-Jukola is the respect of environment and nature. We all – event officials, competitors and public – are responsible for protecting the nature.

You may not litter the environment and you are responsible for sorting out your waste. Next to the restaurant there are containers for bio waste, cardboard and energy waste. Bio waste includes leftover food and paper napkins. Cardboard includes paper plates and paper cups, liquid containers of cardboard and other cardboard products. Energy waste includes, for example, plastic boxes and plastic wrappers. Recyclable bottles must be returned to separate sacks reserved for bottles, they must not be thrown in the waste bins.

In all other places of the competition centre, waste is sorted out into containers according to the instruction on the spot.

Energy gel wrappers or other waste may not be thrown into the terrain. They must be delivered to the waste bins at the drinking stations or in the competition centre.

 

Forbidden actions

It is forbidden to advertise or sell any products or services in any part of the competition area, including accommodation areas, parking areas and competition centre, without a written permission from the event organizer.

It is absolutely forbidden to use radio phones operating on VHF frequencies in the competition centre area.

There is an unconditional smoking ban in the competition centre based on the law (Tobacco Act 5 § 12) except on places specially marked as smoking areas. Consumption of own alcohol is forbidden in the competitor centre. Also, taking alcohol out from the area licensed to serve alcohol, is forbidden.

It is strictly forbidden to make an open fire in the competition centre and in all camping grounds inside and outside of the tents expect at places separately marked as campfire sites. It is also prohibited to use camp and gas cookers, gas grills and tent stoves. Obeying these instructions is monitored.

Camping in the wind shelter tent ground is forbidden.

Using remote controlled drone copters on Lappee-Jukola event centre (including parking zones, camping areas and event centre) is phohibited. Only TV-production operators with a permit from the event organizer may fly on Lappee-Jukola area. (added 10.6.2016) 

 

Did you know…

You can advertise orienteering events on the information board next to the children’s world. If you want to advertise or sell something in the competition area (e.g. in the accommodation and parking area or in the competition centre) you have to have a written permission from the competition organizer.

There is a separate place marked on the competition centre map where clubs can set up their club flags.

According to the rules of the Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF), an orienteer is obligated to help competitor who is sick, hurt or in need of help. An orienteer is also obligated to help find a missing competitor if the competition management says so.
