How to act in an emergency
Accidents and illnesses
First aid is available at first aid station in competition centre (see section First aid) on Fri 13.6. at 10:00 – Sunday 15.6. until 16:00. Otherwise, services of general health service will be used.
If you have a medical condition, allergies or medication that may affect your treatment, please write your name, medical condition, allergies, medication and the telephone number of a contact person who can provide further information to the medical staff.
Serious medical conditions
Call to emergency services on +358 46 5318850 and follow the instructions below.
- Contact emergency services and ask for help
- Check patient’s breathing and circulation. Inanimate patient; start basic
- If breathing and circulation are OK, check possible external injuries
- Move the unconscious patient in a lateral position
- Do not move the patient unnecessarily

Safety Management Centre is in charge of safety-related matters such as first aid, traffic, parking, rescue/fire-fighting and crowd control.
FIRST AID
Main first aid station for competitions is located on west side of competition centre near sauna/shower facilities. A doctor and first aid staff will be on duty at main emergency room. Main first aid post is open Fri 13.6. at 10:00 – Sun 15.6. at 16:00. First Aid at finish are is open Sat 14.6. 12:00 – Sun 15.6. at 16:00.
In competition centre and tent areas there are first aid signs, and first aid is indicated
on competition centre map. First aid point is marked with a green cross. In competition area there is one first aid point during the Venla relay from 13.00 to 22.30 and during the Jukola relay Sat 22.00 – Sun 16.00 two first aid posts. First aid points on terrain are marked on competition maps with a purple cross. In addition, there will be light first aid equipment in refreshment points and some of control marshals have
bandages.
There are several pharmacies in Mikkeli.

Parking and directions to car parks
Cars
Parking for passenger cars is provided by
- Mikkeli Airport: available from 10:00 on Friday, from 8:00 on Saturday until 16:00 on Sunday
- Otava car park: open on Saturday from 8:00 until Sunday from 10:00 until 16:00. Note! Car park is not available on Friday!
Guiding participants to P-areas will be done by
- from south on VT 5 to Otava
- from west, VT 13 to Mikkeli Airport
- from north to VT 5 Mikkeli Airport
- from east VT 13/VT 15 to Mikkeli Airport
Signposts will be in place on Friday 13 June at 7.00. Signs must be obeyed. Congestion is most likely to occur on Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm.
Car parking fees
Car parking spaces are subject to a fee and parking fee is paid using Finnish (domestic) ParkMan application. This avoids congestion and unnecessary queues. You can pay in advance or on spot. Pre-download ParkMan app from App store or Play app store. You can also get help with download at competition info. One-off parking fee is €20. You can also buy a parking ticket via Mobilepay, card payment and cash at competition info for €25.
Parking fees will be checked by automatic number plate cameras throughout event. Please note that a vehicle that has not paid parking fee when leaving will be charged afterwards, with a parking fee of €20 + a surcharge of €10. By parking you accept the conditions.
We recommend highly that all foreign clubs/teams arriving by cars will pay parking fee at competition info avoiding any charges afterwards.
Short-term parking and exiting the area
For each entry to parking area via ParkMan camera, a parking session will be charged, unless payment has been made via the ParkMan app or at competition info.
Organiser is not able to clarify individual cases where parking was only short-term. Please bear this in mind when planning your own drives.
If you are bringing or picking up race guests for a short period by car, do not drive into actual parking area. There is space for such short stops in vicinity of area, as long as you respect parking and stopping restrictions imposed by organisers or general parking and stopping restrictions.
- Be prepared for traffic congestion on your way home too
- Pay attention to safety, watch your state of alertness when you leave
- Do not leave valuables in the car
- There are toilets at edge of parking areas
- Charging points for electric cars can be found at petrol stations in Mikkeli
Exit from car park
Exit from car park is subject to guidance and instructions of organisers. Traffic congestion will be regulated by traffic controllers if necessary. Parking fees will be monitored electronically by cameras.
Caravans
Caravan parks are located in following areas
- HK Maakari caravan park
- Kalevankangas caran park
Caravans must reserve their place in advance via Jukola registration system in accordance with Event Invitation. The first to buy a parking space will be directed to HK Maakari caravan park and vehicles outside capacity of this area will be directed to Kalevankangas caravan park. A parking label indicating parking area will be sent in advance to those who have purchased a caravan or trailer parking space. Parking fee of 60€/115€ will be paid in advance through Jukola registration system as an online payment.
Caravan areas are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Caravan areas will open on Friday 13 June at 10.00 and close on Sunday 15 June at 16.00.
Access to HK Maakari caravan park is from south on VT5 and from Hirvensalmentie via Old Otava Road (Vanha Otavantie) from Otava. Access to HK Maakari from north is also via Old Otavan Road (Vanha Otavantie).
When arriving by caravan, please follow signs and traffic wardens and display pre-supplied parking sticker clearly on windscreen. You may only enter parking area if you have pre-booked and paid for a space in Jukola registration system.
There are a very limited number of toilets in caravan areas, so we recommend using toilets provided by caravan itself. There is no provision for septic tank emptying in caravan park. It is advisable to empty tanks before entering caravan park. There is also no electricity available in parking area. All open fires, barbecues, etc. are prohibited outside caravan or trailer. Use of awnings and front awnings is also prohibited. Minimum distance between vehicles is 4 metres and when parking, it is essential to follow instructions of parking attendants. Use of aggregates in caravan area is prohibited at night between 22:00 and 07:00.
Disabled parking
Disabled parking will take place at competition centre and requires an official disabled parking permit.
Media
Media parking will take place in HK Maakari car park and car park will be available from Saturday 14 June at 8:00 until Sunday 15 June at 16:00. Accredited media representatives will be sent a parking permit in advance by e-mail.
GPS teams
GPS teams will park at competition centre and will require a separate parking permit. Selected GPS teams will be sent a parking permit in advance by e-mail.
Club/team buses
Team buses will be directed to HK stop via Old Otava Road (Vanha Otavantie). Tikkala exit from VT5 will be closed from Saturday 14 June at 07:00 until Sunday 15 June at 18:00.
Traffic controllers will guide waiting and unloading of club buses. These instructions must be strictly observed.
It should be noted that on Sunday, on departure, designated contact person for club buses will inform person in charge of unloading point when whole bus party is ready to board bus in its entirety. Person in charge of the unloading point will give permission as to when each bus contact person may call their driver to area.
Instructions of the unloading point manager and the traffic controllers must be strictly observed.
Motorcycles
Motorcycles and mopeds have their own parking area at competition centre. There is also a parking fee for motorcycles and mopeds and parking fee is payable at competition info. One-off parking fee is €20.
Bicycles
Arrival by bicycle to competition centre is along Tikkalantie, where you must take special care. Follow the signs! Please wear a helmet when cycling. There is a free parking area for bicycles in immediate vicinity of competition centre. Bicycle parking is not guarded, so you leave your bike in parking area at your own risk.
Temporary traffic arrangements
Please follow arrival instructions and signs provided by organisers. Tikkala exit from VT5 will be closed from Saturday 14 June at 07:00 until Sunday 15 June
Arriving by train
Organisers recommend that you arrive by train.
Train station is located in Mikkeli Matkakeskus, approximately 9 km from competition centre. Those arriving by train will walk to Mikkeli Market Square, from where organiser’s free Jukola buses will depart to HK bus stop. From HK bus stop it is a 1500 m walk to competition centre.
Jukola buses
Free Jukola buses run from Mikkeli Airport, Kalevankangas and Mikkeli Market Square to HK bus stop, from where you can walk to competition centre and accommodation areas. Jukola buses from Otava car park will run to Kariniemi bus stop, from where you can walk to competition centre and accommodation areas.
- Buses run Fri-Sun non-stop between stops and car parks
- Buses do not run Fri-Sat night between 22-08
- Sat-Sun night 02-07 there are scheduled services
LUGGAGE TRANSPORT
On Saturday 14.6. from 9 to 18, there will be luggage transport from unloading point of buses to accommodation areas listed below. Luggage transport will leave from HK stop, where those arriving from Kariniemi stop will also have to carry their belongings themselves for onward transport.
Luggage will be taken to accommodation areas as follows:
- Jukola, Pappila and Toukola: transport to roadside of Tikkalantie
- Hemmola: transport next to accommodation area
- Männistö: transport via Old Otava Road (Vanha Otavantie) and Kallajärventie to accommodation area
On Sunday there will be a return luggage transport back to HK stop from 8 am to 2 pm.
On Friday 13 June, you can bring your luggage by own car to accommodation areas along Tikkalantie. Cars can turn off at junction 9A/9B or at junction with road to concrete factory. Those bringing luggage to Hemmola area can turn around next to area. Cars must leave area immediately after dropping off their luggage; there is a parking ban on Tikkalantie.
Note! It is not possible to bring goods to the Männistö area on your own, even on Friday, via Kallajärventie.
TAXI
Taxi rank is located at junction of road leading to competition centre. Location is marked on competition centre map. You get into taxi from taxi rank. You could order a taxi via Let’s go -app from app store or call 0600 300 55. You can also order a taxi via the Valopilkku app.
PREPARING FOR COMPETITION
Competition info
Competition info is located in competition centre (see map). Team material and return maps will be distributed at competition info. A team material pick-up ticket must be printed out in advance. A digital version is not sufficient. Training maps, map moulds, parking stickers, sauna tickets and safety pins are available for sale at competition info. Payment can be made by MobilePay, cash, debit or credit card.
Please check validity of your Emit card before arriving at Mikkeli-Jukola and at the latest at 0-stamps located next to competition info and in front of entry tent. You can rent an Emit card from competition info to replace an inoperative one, rental fee is € 40. Emit cards are available for sale in Suunnistajan Kauppa
Information boards and guidance
Information board is located near competition info. There are also information boards in competition centre, which provide information on activities of competition centre. There are maps and notice boards in tent areas showing location of tent pitches and identification of the clubs’ tent pitches.
Training
There will be no model training near competition centre on race weekend due to land use challenges.
Training maps are available at competition info for Mannila’s Sydänmaa (model), Rantakylä (relay and model), Pahalamminvuori, Tornimäki and Urpola (middle). Training courses have either a flag or a plastic pipe at crossings. Mapping of training maps, course markings and track definitions are same as those used in competition. Training maps will be on sale at competition info from Friday 13 June at 10:00 at a price of 10 €/each.

There is no transport to trainings by organisers.
Runner bank
In the runner bank on the Mikkeli-Jukola website https://jukola.com/2025/en/competitors/runner-bank/ teams can search for runners for missing legs and runners without a team can indicate their wish to run in the relay.
FOLLOWING THE COMPETITION
Filming
Start, changeover and finish can be followed and filmed in competition centre from areas reserved for the public. Video boards in competition centre will show events. GPS tracking devices will be used to monitor
progress of top teams.
Use of drones in competition centre is prohibited except for TV production.
TV and radio
Organisers and Kruuva Oy will produce a broadcast for competition centre screens. Yle will broadcast a television picture of both the Venla and Jukola relays. Bbroadcast will be available on Yle channels and Yle Arena.
Yle Radio Suomi will follow competition on the radio.
English-language Jukola Live broadcast of Mikkeli-Jukola can be watched on IOF TV: https://tv.orienteering.sport/. Both relays on Jukola Live cost a total of 25 euros.
FOREST CHURCH
There is Forest Church near competition centre. You can come to Forest Church for silence, prayer, peace and quiet or even for a discussion. Forest Church will host a communion service on Saturday 14 June at 21.00 for about an hour.
CHILDREN’S LAND
Children’s Land is located at competition centre (see map). There will be a variety of activities, Finnish Orienteering Federation’s Grid Rally and various activities for children.
NOTE! There is no supervised childcare. Children are under the responsibility of their guardians.
DOGS
Dogs must be kept tethered. We recommend that dogs are not brought into competition centre for their own safety.
INVITED GUESTS AND MEDIA
Invited guests will be received at VIP-info located. Reception of accredited media will take place on Friday 13 June at Mikkeli Market Square and from Saturday 14 June at competition centre in media centre. Locations of VIP and Media Centre are shown on map of competition centre.
FOOD AND DRINK
In addition to main restaurant and café-sausage grills, competitors and spectators at Mikkeli-Jukola will be served in Street Food area. There is also an ice-cream and candy shop at competition centre. There will also be a coffee stall run by Sotilaskotiyhdistys ry (Military Home Association). Opening hours of restaurants and cafés can be found under Opening hours.
Main restaurant
Main restaurant serves a delicious lunch on competition days. Main restaurant will have a pre-order and a regular payment lane. For pre-orders lane, you can buy your food in advance via our mobile service before event until Thursday 12 June. By ordering your lunch in advance, you can get it at a lower price and enjoy a smoother dining experience! On-site 14-15 June, card payment only.

- You can buy more than one lunch ticket for event at a time. You can use your prepaid lunch tickets on either day of event, at any time of day and at any time of day during restaurant opening hours. So if you want to have lunch on both days, add two lunches to your shopping basket.
- Lunch tickets will be delivered digitally to phone number you provide before event, so please check that your number is correct before ordering.
Almost all meals are available lactose-free. Dairy-free and gluten-free options are also available. Staff can answer questions about product labels and they can also be found on site.
On Fridays, restaurants have a limited selection. Only some food outlets are open on Fridays. From Saturday onwards, all outlets are open, some lines may be closed at off-peak times. Some outlets will not open on Sunday.
Please prefer to pay by card and Mobilepay!
Busiest times in restaurant are at departure, breakfast (from 04-05) and after finish of Venla realy. During these times you should be prepared for queues. There are plenty of food outlets in area to ensure that food services run as smoothly as possible. In vicinity of main restaurant, there are reserved tables and benches for diners, especially for those in need of seating (e.g. families with children).
Restaurants use biodegradable disposable containers, which are sorted into bio-waste. Please act responsibly and put your rubbish in the rubbish collection points. We don’t litter at Mikkeli-Jukola either. Thank you in advance!
DRINKING WATER
There are drinking water points marked on map at various locations in competition centre and accommodation areas. There are drinking water points in start and exchange area and near finish line. It is forbidden to wash equipment at drinking water points. Washing of equipment is only allowed in a designated area next to showers.
ACCOMMODATION
Competition centre will open on Friday 13 June at 10.00, after which tent and caravan areas will be available. Take care of your valuables! Open fires, barbecues, camping stoves, gas cookers, etc. are strictly prohibited. This ban will be enforced. Smoking is prohibited in areas other than designated smoking areas.
Tent areas
Accommodation in your own tent in accommodation areas will be in numbered tent pitches reserved in advance. Tent pitches are 10 x 10 metres and numbered by accommodation area. Location of reserved tent sites can be found at https://dimtent.jukola.com/, on the Mikkeli-Jukola website (https://jukola.com/2025/en/accommodation/accommodation-near-competition-center/), on signposts in tent areas, in Jukola app and in competition info.
Tents provided by organisers
Tents provided by organisers are located between 150 and 1300 metres from competition centre. Tents are numbered with numbered poles next to the tent. Locations and tent numbers are available at https://dimtent.jukola.com/, on signposts in tent area, in Jukola app and in competition info. Tents are unheated.
Wind shelters
Wind shelters will be set up at locations designated by organisers in advance. Access routes must be left free. No camping or fires are allowed in wind shelter area. Ban on fires also applies to camping stoves and gas cookers.
OTHER SERVICES
Battery Charging
Competition info offers a limited amount of mobile phone charging points. Take your own charger with you.
Storage of valuables
There is no organised locked storage for valuables. Please take care of your valuables. Organisation of Jukola is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen personal property.
Use of Internet and mobile phones
As in all bigger events, mobile networks’ capacity is limited. Goal is to use mobile devices without consuming too much of this limited capacity, so that for example GPS-tracking of competition works properly. Use of normal websites, such as online result service is not a problem. Due to high loads on the internet network, it is not recommended to watch videos or television broadcasts or download video
streams. Please do not create or download video streams in competition centre (Youtube, Facebook, Instagram etc.), as this causes a high load on the network and endangers GPS-tracking.

Jukola App
You can download the Jukola app to your mobile device from the Play Store or the App Store.
Competition maps
Competition maps with all controls are sold at competition info from Sunday June 15th 10:00 a.m. at a price of 10€/ map.
Lost and Found
Items found during competition weekend can be handed in to competition info. Missing items can be looked for in competition info until Sunday at 4 pm after which lost items will be delivered to Jukola office where they will be stored for a week. After a week most valuable ones will then be delivered to the Mikkeli police station.
Information board
Information board is located in front of competition info.
Means of payment
At restaurants, Jukola shop and competition info, payment can be made in cash or with most common debit and credit cards (e.g. Visa, MasterCard) or MobilePay. Local payment is also possible. Maximum banknote accepted at Jukola sales and service points is 20 euros. 50 euro banknotes are only accepted at competition info.
There is no currency exchange or cash withdrawal facility at the competition centre. The nearest cash dispenser is in Rantakylä (5 km).
Washing
Washing facilities are located in competition centre. In addition to showers, washing area has tented saunas. A separate washing facility is reserved for women during Jukola relay.
On Saturday showers will open at 09:00. All saunas are warm from Saturday at 14:00 until Sunday at 16:00.
During Jukola relay, a smaller sauna is available for women from 23:00 on Saturday. On Saturday from 14:00 to 22:00 smaller sauna is for men. Signposts to correct sauna and washroom facilities are at doors of washroom. Sauna fee is €5, payable on site by cash, MobilePay or most major payment cards. A sauna ticket can also be purchased at the competition info. Sauna fee includes the peflet.
Use of your own detergents is allowed.
There are separate collection bins for returnable bottles and cans in the washing area.
Please do not leave your belongings in changing rooms!
Campfires
Use of open fires, camping and gas stoves, barbecues and tent fireplaces is strictly prohibited throughout competition centre and in all accommodation areas, inside and outside tents, and parking areas. Ban on fires will be enforced.
Photography
Photography in public areas is permitted. Both photographic and video material will be filmed at event. There will be video and photographic operators in area to film material for marketing of Jukola relay. By registering and/or arriving at event, you agree that any footage taken of you may be used for event-related information and marketing purposes.
Use of film drones in competition centre is prohibited, with exception of TV production.
All photography by individuals must comply with organiser’s guidelines (e.g. no-go areas) and general rules on photography.
Washing of equipment
Equipment will be washed at a dedicated washing point located near sauna. Washing of equipment elsewhere is prohibited.
Toilets
Toilets in competition centre are indicated on map of competition centre. Toilets are equipped with hand towels. Ordinary waste such as nappies or plastic wrappings may not be placed in toilets, but must be taken to waste bin. Remember to take care of good hand hygiene!
ENVIRONMENT
Jukola is an environmentally friendly event. Event is organised in accordance with Eco-Compass certificate awarded to Joensuu-Jukola 2017. Eco-Compass is an environmental scheme for events and SMEs.
No littering is allowed in competition centre or on competition ground. Each competitor and spectator will sort their waste. We ask all participants to pay special attention to success of waste sorting.
At Mikkeli-Jukola, waste will be sorted and disposed of after the competition in accordance with local sorting guidelines. There are several waste sorting points in competition centre.
Waste sorting at competition centre
Cardboard
- cartons, for example milk and juice cartons
- cardboard disposable bags
- cardboard food packaging such as biscuit packets
- paper bags and sacks
- toilet and kitchen roll liners
- corrugated cardboard packaging
- cardboard multipacks for beverages
Paper
- All types of paper, NOT paper bags and sacks
Bio-waste
- Food waste and paper napkins
Plastics
- Packaging plastics, e.g. jars, bags, boxes, wrappers and trays
- Non-returnable plastic bottles
Mixed waste
- Biodegradable disposable containers
- Textiles such as clothing
- gel bags
- coffee and chip bags
- empty pharmaceutical blister packs and other aluminium-containing packaging not suitable for metal collection
- nappies, bandages and other used hygiene products
- shoes and other rubber, leather and imitation leather products
- plastic articles or products
Metal, glass and hazardous waste
- Metal, glass and hazardous waste have their own recycling bins at the competition information desk.
Returnable bottles and cans
- returnable bottles will have their own containers at the recycling points, near the food/drink service points and in the sauna/laundry area
- The return bottle is identified by the PALPA deposit mark, which also indicates the deposit value.
Batteries, accumulators, other electrical waste and other hazardous waste can be returned to the competition info.
Do not throw energy gel sachets or other waste on ground! They should be deposited in waste bins at drinking points or in competition centre.
FORBIDDEN ACTIONS
- It is forbidden to advertise or sell any products or services in any part of event area, including accommodation areas, parking areas and competition centre, without written permission by event organiser. Advertising other orienteering events is only allowed on information board reserved for this purpose. Board is located next to result board. It is not allowed to deliver advertisements onto car windshields.
- It is absolutely forbidden to use radio phones operating on VHF frequencies in competition centre area (excluding the organisation staff).
- Use of helicopter drone cameras is forbidden for security reasons. There is a restriction
for aerial traffic in the event area (the restriction excludes the TV-production). - There is an unconditional smoking ban in competition centre based on Finnish tobacco laws except for a designated smoking point.
- Consumption of one’s own alcohol drinks is forbidden in competition centre. Drinking of alcoholic beverages is only allowed in beer tent area.
- Use of open fire and use of any outdoor and gas cookers, barbeques and tent heaters is strictly forbidden in entire event centre/area and in all accommodation areas, inside and outside the tents and in parking areas. Fire ban will be supervised.
- Camping in wind shelter area is forbidden.
- Club flags cannot be placed in the competition centre (open area). In accommodation area and in wind shelter area flags can be used. Please take care that placing of flags in areas with TV cameras does not interfere with TV. Flags that disturb TV coverage will be removed.
Did you know that…
You can advertise orienteering events on information board which is located next to result board. If you want to advertise or sell something in event area (including accommodation and parking area and competition centre) you have to have a written permission of the competition organiser. According to rules of Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF), it is the duty of all competitors to help injured competitors. Further, in case of a missing competitor, it is the duty of any competitor to help if organiser asks.
