The organisation of the world biggest orienteering event has been a challenge, said the chair of the organising committee Veikko Kostiainen at the opening ceremony of Jukola in Vantaa.

Traffic, catering and accommodation alone have been a challenge to organisers. In addtion, it will be interesting to see how the courses of Sipoonkorva will challenge the orienteerers on the individual level and how much queueu running will accumulate during the course. This will all be seen in the day and night.

The Chair of the Vantaa City Council Tapani Mäkinen reminded that Jukola is now back to its roots. The first ever Jukola was ran in Vantaa in 1949. The prepartions for this year’s event started already six years ago and the last two years the organisation of the Jukola has been done in collaboration with city of Vantaa
