The relay was not short of excitement when the Finnish favourite Tampereen Pyrintö was disqualified already in the first change of the relay after the second leg runner was given the wrong map by her team mate.
At the start of the second leg the lead spot was with SK Pohjantähti, followed by Leksands OK and Paimion rasti.
After the second leg Halden was leading already with OK Pan Århus from Denmark and Katri Lindeqvist from Paimion Rasti following close at Halden’s tail.
Paimio and OK Pan took the lead but thanks to Halden’s good route choice the other teams were left behind.
At the end Paimion Rasti lost to the winning team with a mere 1.32 seconds. The bronze went to PK Pan Århus.
Halden’s anchor Anne-Margerethe Hausken celebrated the victory and told that she knew already at the start of her leg that there was a chance for grabbing the victory today.
“I had written on my hand “It’s now or never.” and today it finally it came. The competition for the top spot was fierce but I just focussed on my own run and believed in my own skills and choises with the route”, she said and added: “We will be back next year”.
