Competition Cards and Punching System

Emit punching system will be used in the competition. The number of Emit card must be given to IRMA by the last day of registration. Foreign orienteering clubs may send the numbers by e-mail to the director of the competition.

If a competitor is using other than the Emit card, the number of which has been given in advance, it must be reported to the information desk before the runner starts her/his competition. There is a fee of 2 € for that change. Emit cards may be rented from the organizer for 5 €/card. Rented cards must be returned to the information desk after the competition. There is a fee of 75 € for every unreturned Emit card.

A competitor, who uses other than the Emit card that has been registered in advance, may be disqualified.

Emit control slips are available in the starts.

Controls

Controls are marked with orange/white flags in the terrain. Every control also has a Emit punching device, in which a competitor must punch the Emit card. To be sure that the punching has been registered, the Emit card should be punched to the bottom of the device. The code of the control can be found next to the punching device, so the competitor may check that the control is the correct one. An example of the controls is available at the competition center.

Control Descriptions

Control descriptions are printed in the maps. In addition, the control descriptions of Start 3 in the Compass Event are available both as symbols and as written in Start 3. The maps of RR classes do not have control descriptions.

Maps of the Compass Event have the codes of the controls printed with a hyphen between the number and the code of the control.

There are a lot of controls in the terrain, so the codes should be checked every time.

Forbidden Areas

There are a lot of forbidden areas in the terrain, which have been marked on maps according to the specifications. The forbidden areas are marked in the terrain with a continuous red & white plastic band, when the area is marked on the map with a continuous line. The plastic band is set approximately one meter high.

In addition to the forbidden areas marked in the map, there are some small forbidden areas marked with the band, which are not shown on the map (e.g. fox’s nest).

As described in the Rules of Finnish Orienteering Federation, olive green courtyards are forbidden areas. In addition, there are also other forbidden objects according to the rules of sprint orienteering, which can be studied from the website of the federation.

In the Compass Event, forbidden objects may be marked with a plastic band in the terrain even if they are not marked on the map. There is also a white plastic band in the terrain for the string courses, which has nothing to do with forbidden areas.

There are a variety of small housing, apartment buildings and public buildings in the terrain of the sprint competition. There are two busy streets in the area as well as less busy housing streets and a lot of ways for lighter traffic. Some courtyards with fences and olive green forbidden private areas form challenging mazes for the sprint orienteering. Part of the area is forest with the courses following tracks. The largest contour interval is approx. 15 m.

The competition area is not closed from public use. Traffic rules must be followed on streets and biking ways, that means that on streets and walkways one must move on the sides and the streets must be crossed with caution. Busy street should be crossed using bridges for light traffic. Courses have 1–3 crosswalks, where there will be traffic controller.
