Lahden Suunnistajat -37 stormed to victory at this year’s Nuorten Jukola with a strong performance on the anchor leg. Tampereen Pyrintö, who had led the relay from the opening leg onwards, made mistakes on the detailed terrain during the anchor leg, allowing Lahden Suunnistajat -37 and Angelniemen Ankkuri, who had started several minutes behind, to catch up with the Tampereen Pyrintö anchor runner.
The physical final section of the course played into the hands of Lahden Suunnistajat’s Aatu Marttinen, who managed to pull away from Angelniemen Ankkuri’s Onni Virtanen on the steep lakeside slope. Angelniemen Ankkuri crossed the finish line in second, just over half a minute behind the winners, while Tampereen Pyrintö dropped to third.
