Under a fabric canopy next to the main stage, Maria Heikkinen and Katri Kuusisto enjoy the sunny day on the stall of Hollola medieval society.
“People often ask if we are feeling hot in these dresses, but I always reply to them that actually no. The clothes are made of natural materials,” Maria tells.
”There’s a cotton dress underneath and over it wool. It breaths well,” Katri adds.
The women are in Jukola to introduce their society’s activities and one of the biggest events in Hollola, the medieval fair, which is organized in July 20th – 22nd. On their stall they have medieval items, like a dining table with different kinds of plates and utensils and foods, and on the background hangs clothes and accessories. The items are from the members of the society.
The women have been at the stall since the Saturday morning.
“There has been a lot of people visiting. There’s a lot of people passing through and people stop to ask what thing we are keeping,” Maria says.
The idea to participate came from the municipality of Hollola. Both women are in Jukola for the first time.
“There is a really good mood here. It is fun to be here, since I don’t often tend to come to sport events in medieval theme,” Maria rejoices.
