How to operate in Lahti-Hollola-Jukola

These instructions are intended to guide the participants of Jukola about how to operate in the village of Jukola. For detailed instructions relating to the competition, see the competition guide.

Safety and Emergency situations

In Case of Emergency:

Accidents: First aid can be obtained from the emergency center of the competition center (see First Aid) from 10:00 on Friday 15.6. until 16.00 on Sun 17.6. Otherwise, general public health care services are used.

If you have any allergies or medications that may affect your treatment, write on the back of your competition number bib, details of your allergy, medication, and emergency contact person details for which the nursing staff can get more information if needed.

Serious incidents: call first aid station tel. +358 44 766 0404 and act according to the instructions below:

• Explain what has happened
• Prevent further accidents
• Check the patient’s condition
• Check the breathing
• Move the patient to the correct position
• Danger of death call 112

In case of fire in the competition centre or in the parking area: act according to the instructions below. Inform also the security emergency department.

If you notice a fire:

• Warn people at risk
• If possible, limit the fire (fire extinguisher, fire blanket)

Helpdesk is a service number that is responsible for event guidance and counseling, as well as issues related to organizing of the event, such as defects, and repair and overhaul activities.

The Kisatike handles safety-related issues such as first aid, traffic and order control.

The competition information handles competition issues such as running order, etc.

First aid

The main first aid station station is situated in the competition center east of Church road (Kirkkotie) between the washing center and the lake. There one can find a doctor on call and other first aid personnel. The competition center has signs for emergency care and the first aid center is marked on the competition center map. The sign for first aid is a white cross on a green background. In the terrain there are two first aid points during the Venla Relay and three during the Jukola Relay. These are marked on the competition maps with a violet colored cross. First aid kits are also available at refreshment points.

Warning!

The erection of club flags with long poles near the high voltage lines (at the edge of Hollola Kirkkotie and elsewhere) and their transporting from the parking and accommodation areas to the wind protection area, under electric lines, is prohibited because of the risk of electric shock!

Directions to the competition center

The traffic is diverted into several arrival routes, parking areas and bus unloading areas. Nevertheless, please ensure you arrive as early as possible to ensure you have enough time to enter the competition center. Congestion is most likely to occur on Saturday between 11:00 and 14:00.

Major construction works in the center of Lahti and the southern ring road has also begun and due to these ongoing work directions via the shortest route will not be signposted.

Directions to the competition center will mainly be via highway 12.

You can listen to Jukola traffic announcements from Yle Lahti at 93.2 MHz or Radio Power at 98.6 MHz.

Passenger cars

Passenger cars are directed to the two field parking areas, the P-area South and the P-area North, via the Hollolan Church road (Kirkkotie) according to the organizer’s directions.

Distances from the P-area to the competition center from the south are about 2.7km (P-area South, P1-4) and about 2.2km from the north (P-area North, P5).

There is no passenger transport from the car parks. In the car parking areas there are drop off locations where baggage can be left for transport to the different accommodation areas. The dropped-off luggage will be transported to a location, near to the respective accommodation areas, where they can then be collected. Similarly, on Sunday, a participant can leave his belongings at a location near the accommodation to be transported to the parking area. Luggage will be delivered during the following times: Fri 16.6. 10-22, Sat 17.6. 8-20, Sun 18.6. 8-16.

Transport of goods is carried out in cooperation with farmers using tractors and trailers. Drop off points are signposted

• Competition center south, at the eastern part of Church road (Kirkkotie)
• Competition center north at the drop-off point for team buses number B7.

In the immediate vicinity of the Lahti Travel Center, parking is available for families with children and the disabled. Parking is available on the Asko parking area, Askonkatu 9, 15100, Lahti. The parking area is not manned or guarded. From there you can easily reach the competition center via the Travel Center with a normal pay bus service.

Next to Jukola’s southern parking area, the Hollolan Työtjärvi and Krouvi residential areas have a ban on all non-resident parking in the area, which will be controlled. A badly parked car is a safety hazard. A resident ID will be given to those who live in these residential areas.

VIP and media authorized cars will be directed via Hollola (guidance point: Rantatie 952, 16710, Hollola) to the parking area near the competition center. This area cannot be accessed without the proper parking permit. Keep the parking permit displayed prominently on the inside of the car’s windshield upon arrival.

INVA /Disabled card allows people with reduced mobility access to the VIP parking area.  A parking ticket (15 €) must be redeemed from the Jukola store or the information center.

Parking tickets for passenger cars can be purchased from the Jukola store, information center or when leaving the car park. The parking fee for cars is 15€ if purchased from the store or competition center or 25€ if purchased when leaving the car park. When leaving the parking, only the correct amount, payable by cash only, is accepted! Parking tickets are checked at departure. Please note that vehicles with a paid parking ticket will be directed to a separate lane upon leaving the car park, so as to avoid queuing.

Remember: Do not leave valuables in sight!

Competition Buses

There are two different bus connections to the competition center.

• A bus service will be provided from the Lahti Travel Center to the competition centre via Hollola town center and Kukonkoivu industrial area. When purchased on board the bus tickets cost 6€ (only in cash). It is recommended that you buy pre-paid mobile tickets which cost 4,70€. The end stop is located south of the competition center, about 500m from the exchange area. The return journey (also requires a fee) takes the same route back.
• The local bus line number 4 bus runs from Nastola via Lahti travel center and the Lahti market square. Prices should be requested when entering the bus as they vary according to local traffic tax. The end stop is located approximately a 12 minute walk from the competition center.

Motor homes

Visitors arriving by motor homes or caravans should, as instructed by the invitation to competition, be booked in advance through the registration system. The number of places for vehicles is limited and they are allocated in the order of registration. The parking fee of EUR 45/90 will be paid in advance in the registration system as an online payment.

Motor homes and caravans are directed via highway 12 to the Kukonkoivu industrial area, navigation address Korpikyläntie 2, 15880, Hollola.

A parking permit for Motor homes and caravans is provided to all pre-booked persons. The parking permit shoul be kept visible on the inside of the car’s windscreen until departure.

The P-areas for motor homes and caravans are open from Friday 15 June, starting at 10.00. The areas have a drinking water point and toilets. There is no drainage of septic tanks for parking areas. It is good to empty the tanks before entering Jukola.

Distance from the car parks to the competition center is about 2,000-2,500 meters. Open fire and grill use is prohibited outside the vehicle. Also, the use of awnings and paraphernalia is prohibited. The use of aggregates in the tourist vehicle area is forbidden at night from 22 to 07.

Team buses

Team buses will be directed to the drop-off points of the competition center, either via the north (for accommodation areas Männistö and Kuusisto) or via the south (all other accommodation areas), depending on the accommodation chosen by the club.

The northern area is accessed via Hollola, the navigation address Rantatie 952 16710 Hollola.

Other accommodations are access using highway 12 via Hollola Soramäki, the navigation address Tiilikankaantie 2, 15880 Hollola.

The contact person of the teams should print the color code of the accommodation from the Jukola website. Initially traffic guides will direct buses to the bus park (Kukonkuja 3, Hollola) where they will be provided with appropriate drop-off and parking instructions for their arrival at the relevant parking areas.

Additional route (Team buses)

To reduce traffic congestion due to left turning vehicles on highway 296 (Helsinki / Orimattila) and highway 54, and possibly highway 12 westbound traffic, team buses may be directed to travel via the Messilä road (road number 14070) (follow signs).

Motorcycles

Motorcycles (and mopeds) have their own car park in a gravel pit  at the southern edge of the competition center. Directions for motorcycles follows the general guidance of that for southern parking, but upon arrival at the parking area, motorcycles will have their own sign. Motorcycles will be directed to the parking areas via Church Road (Kirkkotie). Parking for motorcycles is also charged (15€ if purchased from the competition center and 25€ if purchased upon exiting the parking lot). Payment is checked upon departure.

Bicycles

Bicycle parking is located on both sides of the competition center and is free of charge. Bicycle parking areas are marked on the competition center map.

Arrival Directions

From the South:  Traffic arriving from highway 4 (VT4) will be directed on to the old Helsinki road number 140 at junction 13. Signposting to the competition center start at Lahti Jokimaa at the crossroads of road 140 and road 296.

From the Southeast: From the direction of Orimattila (road 167) signposting starts at Renkomäki (road 296, Hollola).

From the west: For traffic arriving from highway 12 (VT12), signposting starts at Sairakkala, about 19 km before Lahti, (junction of roads 3173 and 2953).

From the south-west:  For traffic arriving from the direction of Riihimäki (KT54), signposting starts approx. 5km before the junction with Korpikyläntie (road 2954).

From the north and east: For traffic arriving from the direction of Mänttä, signposting starts at Asikkala at the junction of highway 24 and road 317, at the intersection with KT24 in Lahti Holma and at highways VT4 / VT5 at junction 18 Lahti Karisto.

The road signposts will be in place on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 07:00 and must be followed.

Exit from the competition center

Exiting from the competition center and the parking areas will be done according to the guidance and instructions of the organizers. Parking tickets are checked at departure.

Preparing for the competition

Competition Information Center

The competition information center is situated in close proximity to the entrance gate of the main competition center. The team material as well as the return maps are handed out at the information center. A collection ticket for these should be printed in advance. One can also buy model orienteering maps, training maps, plastic map covers, parking tickets, sauna tickets and safety pins at the info. Before the competition, please make sure your Emit-card works properly! You can do this also in the competition center: there are points for this next to the competition information and next to the start / changeover area’s entrance. If you do not have a working Emit-card, you can hire one from the info or buy yourself a new one in the Orienteering Shop (Suunnistajan Kauppa) in the competition center.

Information Boards and Guidance

The main information board is located close to the Information center. Signposts are located in the competition center between the Information center and the exchange area. Information boards are also located in the competition center and at the club bus drop-off area’s which will detail the facilities at the competition center. Tent areas include maps and bulletin boards, showing the location of the tent pitches and the names of the pitches of the clubs.

Special instructions for Venla and Jukola competitors.

Phase 1

Leave enough time to sign in and do Emit reset. The competitor must sign in no later than 20 minutes before the scheduled start. Check and finalize your equipment before arriving. Attach your competition number with four safety pins to the chest of your competition shirt as well as entering onto the V / J emit check sheet, your team number and your leg number. Take into account the weather conditions when dressing for warming up. The warm up area has drinking water and toilet. Take with you your compass, emit card, night light lamp, battery and battery vest, spare lamp and any additional energy supplies (gels etc.). In the forest, there are drinking points so there is usually no need for taking your own drinks with you. Take care that your shoes abide by the rules. Spike shoes are forbidden.

Phase 2

In the entrance tent your number bib’s bar code will be read into the system. After this, you put your Emit-card onto the Emit-unit. Please keep your number bib in sight and your Emit-card ready so that the process will run smoothly and quickly.

Phase 3

In the Emit-reset your Emit-card will be cleared. If your Emit-card doesn’t work, you will be guided back to the entrance tent, where you can hire a working Emit-card or get yourself a working Emit-card from elsewhere. If you hire an emit card, you can pay for it later at the competition information center. The Emit card cannot be replaced anymore after Emit reset has been performed. Only a competitor with a competition number can access the departure and change over areas. Competitors must not leave the departure / change over area after Emit reset.

Tip: Attach your Emit-card backup slip into your Emit-card with a small piece of tape.

Phase 4

The warm-up area is marked on the competition center map. The warm-up area has a toilet, a water point, time Interval monitoring monitors and rubbish bins. Put all rubbish (e.g. energy gel wrappers and drink bottles etc.) into the rubbish bins provided, thank you.

Starters can also warm up from the starting line up to the first bend about 300 meters away. Coaches, physio’s and spectators can access the eastern side of the fence, from where they can, for example, take competitors training clothes.  A fenced enclosure will be built around the start area one hour before departure. The fence is dismantled immediately after the competitors have departed. Do not leave your clothes on the fence surrounding the start area.

In the start area follow the instructions given by the announcer. The access to the adjacent area of the start rows is opened 15 minutes before departure Make your way to your own start row in good time to wait for additional instructions from the announcer. There will be number signs at the ends of the rows. Runners with larger numbers move to the end of the area. Teams with a small number move to the last exit line.

Approximately 8 minutes before departure the announcer will give the competitors permission to move to their own starting point. Go along the line parallel to your chest number in the start grid. Your place is indicated by a numbered tape on the ground. Just wait behind the tape. Make sure the tape on the ground has the number corresponding to your chest number.

Distributing the maps starts when announced. Each line (20 competitors) has one map slot. Make sure you get a map that matches your own chest number. It is the competitor’s responsibility to check that they get the right map. Keep the map visible in front of your body until departure. Do not open the seal on the folded map before the start signal is fired. According to the competition guidelines, the opening of the map seal before the start signal is fired leads to the disqualification of the team. Do not move from your place before the start signal is fired by the Finnish Defense Forces. In accordance with the competition guidelines, the start will be recorded and any teams that false started will be disqualified. Map distributors pull the numbered tape strips away after the maps have been distributed so they do not get stuck to the competitor’s feet. Do not move from your starting position after the tape is removed. The start is being recorded. Do not rush in vain to the starting point. The starting area is narrow so be careful not to push other contestants!

If you are late, do not attempt to climb the fence around the starting area but enter normally via the emit check-in. Competitors who are less than 15 minutes late will get their map from the start officials after the start has taken place.

Runners of other legs may leave warm-up garments for the previous relay runners on the exchange fence or the fence between the change over areas entrance and exit points.

Phase 5

When you finish your leg, choose the correct finish lane (corresponding your leg number). The correct lane will be shown to you by screens / officials. You have to punch your emit also at the finish! Punch your Emit-card the same way as in controls. Then give your map to the officials waiting.

Tip: Open your map wide before you hand it in to the officials.

Phase 6

How to find the map for the next leg runner: The map stands are equipped with number signs at the ends of the stands. The numbering at the beginning of the map stand indicates the entire number of rows in the rack. The smallest numbers are closest to the changeover fence.

When you find the correct map, carrying your team number and the next runner’s leg number, take it by lifting it straight upwards from the bag. Do not tear / rip! When you have the map, go to the changeover fence. At the fence, the teams with the smallest numbers are on the left end and those with the biggest numbers on the right end.

Tip: There are number signs at the changeover fence, indicating where your team’s next runner should be waiting.

If for some reason there is no correct map in your team’s map bag or if you have accidentally taken a wrong map from a wrong bag, you must immediately contact the help point on the left end of the changeover fence. That is where the issue will be dealt with.

Training

There are warm-up and training maps available during the competition weekend using terrain to the north of the competition center. The course markings, control descriptions and control setups are the same as the ones used in the competition. There are flags and codes in the control points in the forest. Maps are sold at the Jukola Information center starting from 15th June 10:00. More: jukola.com/2018/harjoittelu. Warm-up maps (5€) and Training maps (7€).

Orienteerers Bank

From the Lahti-Hollola Jukola internet site you can find the orienteerers bank where teams can seek runners to replace missing team members or a person without a team can seek a team for him/herself.

Following the Competition

Spectator control-point

The spectator control point is located approximately 800m walking distance from the information center. The access route to this control is marked on the area map (Taulamatintie, Juhanintie, Eerontie). All competitors (in both Venla and Jukola relays) will visit this control.

Filming

Starting, changeovers and the Finish line can be filmed/photographed at the competition center in areas reserved for the public. The video monitors in the competition center show tournament and terrain events. The progress of the top teams will be monitored by GPS trackers.

TV and radio

Jukola’s organizer and Kruuva Oy will broadcast television pictures on screens at the competition center. Live broadcast on TV is on Yle channels TV1 and Yle Areena.  Live radio broadcast of both relays is on Yle Puhe channel (90,5 MHz) and on local Yle Lahti sat klo 9-14 and 18-22 (97,9MHz and yle.fi/lahti). In addition live commentary from the competition center will be broadcast on 88,7MHz. There is also Lahti-Hollola Jukola’s english-language web TV broadcast. Live stream for both relays cost a total of 16€. Commentary is provided by Linus Hoffman and Viljam Liljeroth.

Other activities

Forest Church

The forest church service starts on Saturday at 21:00, lasting for approximately 1 hour, and will feature Bishop Matti Repo and singers of Lahti Gospel Choir. YLE TV1 will record the Forest Church service and it will be broadcast on the YLE TV1 channel on 1.7. at 10:00. The forest church is located in the area south of Kastar lake (Kastarlammi), just 100 meters east of the main first aid center. The Forest church is organized by Lahti Evangelical Lutheran parish congregation and the Hollola parish congregation. The visual effects used at the Forest church have been designed by the Institute of Design students from the Lahti University of Applied Sciences. Seating places are limited, so please bring your own chairs/stools.

Children’s World

Children’s World is located in the competition center. In the area you can find activities and programs for children on Saturday from 10:00 – 21:00 and on Sunday from 08:00 – 12:00.

In the Children’s world, baby food can be heated up and nappy changing facilities are available around the clock. Another place to warm up food is in the restaurant.

Note! There is no supervised care for children in the Children’s World.

VIP Guests and Media

The VIP reception desk is located in the VIP tent along with the VIP information center. Accredited media (See jukola.com/2018/mediapalvelut) are welcomed in the media tent which is located at the end of the finishing line in the media center.

Food and drinks

The competitors and spectators of Lahti-Hollola Jukola’s are offered a wide range of restaurants and cafes: a main restaurant and cafeteria, a smaller cafe, grills, ice cream vans and a beer tent. One can also find a cafe run by Lahti Military Association. The opening hours can be found in the section Opening hours.

All food is lactose-free. There are also non-lactose, milk-free and gluten-free meals available. The competition center also has a veggie grill, where you can get vegetarian food. On Friday the food selection might be limited.

The main restaurant’s food is paid for at a separate cash register where you will receive a food ticket which can then be used to collect your food from the food pickup area. You can pay with cash or with most commonly recognized bank and credit cards (see Bank and Post). Largest accepted bill is 20€. It is most convenient, if you are able to provide the exact change. Any 50€ notes can be exchanged at the information center.

The rush hours at the restaurant are around the start times of both relays and after Venla relay finishes. At those times, please be prepared to queue. You can avoid the queues to the counters by buying the food tickets from the cashiers well in advance of dining.

NB! The main restaurant uses disposable containers that are sorted into energy waste. The food sources are sorted with serviettes into a bio waste container. The cartons are sorted into a cardboard container. Refillable bottles and pans have their own collection containers.

Drinking Water

The competition center and accommodation areas have ten drinking water stations which are marked on the map with a blue balloon symbol. There are water taps also in the start & changeover areas and in the finish area. It is forbidden to wash sports gear in these drinking water stations. Sports gear may be washed only at the equipment washing site located adjacent to the main washing site.

Accommodation

The competition centre is opened to tents, camper cars / caravans or hammocks from Friday June 15th from 10.00 onwards once the signposting is in place. Take care of your valuables! The use of open fire (including smoking), gas grills, camp and gas cookers etc. is strictly forbidden except at places separately marked as campfire sites.

Teams can bring their own accommodation to the competition center on Friday, June 15 between 10:00-21:00. Short-term drop-offs for this will take place in the VIP and Media parking area as well as at the Jukola Bus Terminal stop south of the competition center. From these areas there is a short distance to the tent or windshield areas. Vehicles used for drop-offs must leave the area by 21:00.

The Church road (kirkkotie) will be closed on Friday 15.6. starting at 19:00, after which the exit from the VIP and Media park will take place only north via Hollola Town.

Camping Areas

Camping in one’s own tents in the competition center takes place in pre-reserved, numbered tent pitches. The camping areas for own are located in the immediate vicinity of the competition center. The tent places are 10 x 10 meters in size and they are numbered in the terrain. The reserved tent places can be viewed on the Lahti-Hollola Jukola web site, on information boards located at the camping area and at the competition information center. If there are any tent places available as the competition center opens, they can be purchased at the competition information center.

Tents Set Up by Organizer (Rented Tents)

The pre-reserved rented tents set up by the organizer are located in the immediate vicinity of the competition center (Lukkarila). Tents are numbered with signs next to the tents. The tent places and numbers can be seen on the Lahti-Hollola Jukola web site, on information boards located at the camping area and at the competition information center. The tents are not heated. Hammocks

The site reserved for hammocks is located in the immediate vicinity of the competition center, in an area of woody forests and a partially open area. Places can be booked and paid for (5 €) upon arrival at the information center. Upon payment you will receive a ticket which can be attached to the hammock. In the hammock area you can choose freely to hang your hammock between the trees in the forest area or use a self-standing hammock in the open area.

School Accommodation

School floor accommodation is offered in the classrooms at Tiilikankaan school (Tiilikankaantie 3, Hollola) which is located about 3 km from the competition center.

The school floor accommodation can be booked in advance via the on-line registration system or at the competition information center and costs 20 € / night.

Windbreak shelters

The pre-reserved team’s windbreak shelters are erected in places designated by the organizers. Pathways must be left free. Other accommodation sources (tents) and the use of open fire (including smoking), gas grills, camp and gas cookers etc. is strictly forbidden in the windbreak shelter areas.

Battery Charging

The Jukola store is equipped with a mobile phone charging point (50 charging points) provided by DNA. There is also a charging point provided by Lahti Energy company (20 charging points).

Area Guides

Area guides are circulating during the busiest times. They can be recognized by the orange balloons.

Storage of valuables

There is no organized locked storage for valuables. Please take care of your valuables.

Automotive Roadside Service

If you have a problem with your car, Autoliiton Tiepalvelu help desk number is +358 40 350 5374. An Emergency service desk is available between the hours of 08:00 Saturday and 14:00 Sunday, at the competition centers southern car park, near church road (Kirkkotie).

Usage of the Internet and mobile phones

There is free Wi-Fi in the competition center. It is meant for everyday Internet usage, but please note the following: as in all bigger events, the mobile networks’ capacity is limited. The goal is to use mobile devices without consuming too much of this limited capacity, so that for example the GPS-tracking of the competition works properly. Usage of normal websites, such as the online result service is no problem.

Due to high loads It is recommended that you do not watch videos or television broadcasts or download video streams (YouTube, Facebook, Periscope, etc.) in the competition center so as not to jeopardize the functionality of GPS tracking.

Jukola Shop

Jukola shop offers official Jukola products from shirts to traditional fabric brands. There can also be found novelties and special limited items. Payment can be made with most common bank or credit cards or cash. In the Jukola store, the largest banknote that is accepted is 50€.

Competition maps

Competition maps containing all controls are sold at the Info from Sunday June 17th 9:20 a.m. onwards (10€ / each).

Heating of children’s meals

Heating of children’s meals is possible around the clock in the Children’s World and in the competition restaurant.

Lost and Found

Items found during the event weekend can be handed in to the competition information center.

Missing Items can be looked for in the competition information center until Sunday at 16:00 after which the lost items will be delivered to the Jukola office where they will be stored for a week. After this time the more valuable items will be delivered to the Southern Finland Lost and Found Offices (eslt.fi). For enquiries about lost goods please call 0600 55 00 93 (charge 1,83€ / min + the normal call charge). Southern Finland Lost and Found Offices is open Mon 10:00 – 18:00, Tue-Fri 10:00 – 16:00.

Signpost

The signpost is located between the exchange area and the main Jukola gate.

 Bank and Postal Services

Restaurant, Jukola shop and Info accept cash and major bank and credit cards (e.g. Visa, MasterCard and Eurocard). Contactless payment option is also available. The largest accepted bank note is 20€. 50€ notes are only accepted at the competition information center or the Jukola shop. Individual private companies may accept different payment options at their discretion.

There is no foreign currency exchange or possibility to withdraw cash in the competition centre. The closest ATMs from the competition centre are located at the Prisma Supermarket in Hollola town center. The address is Kansankatu 8, Hollola.

Postal Services in provided in at the R-Kiosk shop in Hollola between 9:00 – 20:00 (Keskuskatu 11, Hollola).

Showers

The washing area is located east of Church Road (Kirkkotie) at the western end of Kastar lake (Kastarlammi). In addition to showers, there are tent saunas in the washing area. Separate bathing facilities are reserved for men during the Venla relay and for women during Jukola relay.

One sauna is heated on Friday and is reserved for women from 16.00 to 18.30 and for men from 18.30 to 21.00. Separate showers are available from 16:00 to 21:00.

On Saturday the showers will open at 09:00. All the saunas will be warmed from Saturday at 14.00 until Sunday at 16.00. During the Jukola relay women have their own smaller sauna available from Saturday evening at 23:00. Also on Saturday, between 14:00 to 22:00, a smaller sauna is available for men only. Instructions for sauna use and showering facilities are located on the door at the entrance to the washing area. The sauna fee is 4€, payable in cash (flat rate) on site. You can also buy a sauna ticket from the competition information center. The sauna fee includes a seat cover to be used in the sauna.

In addition, in the vicinity of the main shower area, there are two bath tubs (mounted on top of a lorry bed) for competitors at a price of 2€ for about 15 minutes.

Sort empty shampoo bottles, seat covers and energy gel wrappers for energy waste. Returnable bottles and cans have their own recycling bins in the washing area.

Taxis

There is a taxi stand located in the competition center next to the Jukola bus terminal. It is marked on the competition centre map. Taxis are usually hailed from the taxi stand. Taxis can drop-off customers at the Inva car park or at the Riimu yard if needed.

Campfires

The use of open fire and the use of outdoor and gas cookers, barbecues and tent stoves is strictly forbidden in the entire competition center and in all accommodation areas, inside and outside the tents, in parking lots and at non-designated campfire sites. The fire ban is controlled.

Photography

Photography in the general area is permitted. The competition organizers will also take pictures of competitors during the event. By participating in this event, you agree that the organizer of the event may use the pictures taken at the event for their own purposes.

Cleaning of equipment

There is a separate equipment washing point close to the showers and sauna. Washing sports gear elsewhere is forbidden.

Toilets

The toilets in the competition center are marked on the competition center map with a red balloon symbol. All the toilets include hand disinfection liquid. Waste items such as diapers or plastic wrappings should be put into the correct rubbish bins not into the toilet.

Environment

Jukola is an eco-friendly event. Lahti-Hollola Jukola’s environmental arrangements will be implemented in accordance with the Ekokompassi certificate issued in Joensuu-Jukola 2017. Eco-compass is an environmental management system for events and small and medium-sized enterprises. There will be no littering in the environment and everybody is responsible for disposing of their own waste. We ask everyone to pay special attention to ensure the successful sorting of waste. The waste from Lahti-Hollola Jukola is sorted and delivered after the competition for reuse according to local sorting instructions. Paper, cardboard and recyclable bottles are delivered for recycling. Biowaste will be sent for processing into bio gas, compost and soil improvers. Energy waste is sent to the Lahti gas-fired power plant to be used as energy. Mixed waste is delivered to the local mixed waste sorting plant for further processing.

Returnable bottles and cans

– A returnable bottle is identified by the PALPA deposit mark, which also shows the deposit value.

Batteries and electrical equipment can be returned to the competition information center.

Energy gel wrappers or other wastes must not be thrown onto the ground. They should be disposed of in the drink station rubbish bins or to the rubbish bins located around the competition center.

Forbidden Actions

It is forbidden to advertise or sell any products or services in any part of the competition area, including accommodation areas, parking areas and competition centre, without written permission from the event organizers. Advertising other orienteering events is only allowed on an information board reserved for this purpose, which is located in the vicinity of the competition information center.

It is absolutely forbidden to use radio phones operating on VHF frequencies in the competition centre area.

Use of helicopter drone cameras is forbidden for security reasons. In Defense Forces areas, the use of a copter camera is always allowed only with permission to do so.

There is an unconditional smoking ban in the competition centre based on the Finnish tobacco laws (Tobacco Act, Chapter 5, Section 12) except where designated. Designated smoking points on marked on the competition center map.

Consumption of own alcohol is forbidden in the competitor centre. Also, taking alcohol out from the areas licensed to serve alcohol, is forbidden.

The use of open fires and the use of outdoor and gas cookers, barbecues and tent stoves is strictly forbidden in the entire competition center and in all accommodation areas, inside and outside the tents, in parking lots and at non-designated campfire sites. Obeying these instructions is monitored.

Camping in the wind shelter tent ground is forbidden.

Setting up club signs in tall poles is forbidden close to the power lines as there is a serious danger of an electric shock!

Also, taking signs in tall poles from the parking and accommodation area to the service tent area is forbidden as there are power lines and therefore a serious danger of an electric shock!

In the competition center (open area), club flags cannot be placed outside the reserved areas marked on the map of the competition center. In the accommodations and in the windshield area, flags can be used. Please take care that placing of flags in the areas with TV cameras do not interfere with TV shooting.

 Did you know…

You can advertise orienteering events on the information board which is located near to the competition information center. If you want to advertise or sell something in the competition area (e.g. in the accommodation and parking area or in the competition centre) you have to have a written permission from the competition organizers. Sales activities are allowed only with the permission of the organizers.

According to the rules of the Finnish Orienteering Federation (FOF), an orienteer is obligated to help competitor who is sick, hurt or in need of help. An orienteer is also obligated to help find a missing competitor if the competition management says so.

PROCEDURES IN THE EVEN OF ECOUNTERING UNEXPLODED ORDINANCE

The competition will be partly staged on terrain which has, for decades, formed part of the Finnish Defense Forces training ground. The most probable areas where unexploded ordinance is likely to be has been inspected before the competition, but

If any competitor detects any suspect objects on the ground:

• DO NOT TOUCH!
• MARK THE OBJECT if you can, using any available means.
• NOTIFY the organizers of the exact location of the suspicious object.

The Finnish Defense Force are fully prepared for handling unexploded ordinance.
