Esi-Jukola tarjoaa ainutlaatuisen mahdollisuuden testata Kotka-Jukolan maastoja ja järjestelyjä jo vuotta ennen varsinaista suurviestiä. Samalla Viestiliigan osakilpailu tuo paikalle Suomen huippusuunnistajat ja kovatasoisen kisatunnelman. Esi-Jukola kilpaillaan Kymin lentokentän eteläpuolella vauhdikkaasssa kallio- ja kangasmaastossa.
Kilpailu rajoittuu Kotka-Jukolan kilpailualueeseen, ratamestareina toimivat Jukolan tapaan Tuomas Mattila ja Janne Niskanen, ja kartan on tehnyt Janne Weckman. Kolmiosuuksiset viestit noudattavat 50-35-50 min ihanneaikoja. Naisten kilpailevat valoisassa, miesten kilpailu alkaa päivänvalossa päättyen pimeään.

For competitors: train for Kotka-Jukola
Winter has arrived, and the Kotka-Jukola training exercises will close after Epiphany on January 7, 2026.
New training exercises will open in the spring as soon as the snow has melted, tentatively in early April. The spring training package will be published around the turn of January and February, and in addition to new courses, new training terrains will also be introduced.
Terrain and old competition maps
The terrain surrounding Kymi Airfield is mostly runnable, firm-ground rocky and heath forest.
The terrain is mostly gently contoured, and the maximum elevation differences in the area are 40 metres. The area previously hosted the Finnish Relay Championships in 1975 and Fin-5 stages in 1986.
