The world’s largest orienteering event comes to the City by the Sea – Kotka: Kotka-Jukola 2026 already breaking records

The Jukola Relay, the world’s largest orienteering event, will be held in the City by the Sea – Kotka, Finland, on 13–14 June 2026.

Kotka-Jukola 2026 has started exceptionally strongly. After the close of the first registration price tier, 17,279 competitors have registered at this stage, representing 3,065 teams from 19 countries. The previous record was set at Kangasala Jukola 2019, where 16,720 competitors had registered at the same stage, meaning Kotka has exceeded the record by 559 registrations.

– The number and pace of registrations at this stage reflect exceptional enthusiasm for Kotka-Jukola. The orienteering community clearly wants to be part of this event,” says Kotka-Jukola Secretary General Pauli Mäkelä.

Kymi Airfield as the event centre, together with the surrounding competition terrain, provides a pleasant, safe, functional and clearly structured environment, even for an event of record-breaking size. The aim is to deliver a participant-friendly Jukola experience.

– The strong interest in Kotka-Jukola gives our organising team great motivation to continue preparations. The airfield area enables smooth and safe arrangements even at this scale,” says Competition Director Ari Kukkonen.

All military tents are currently fully booked. If additional tents become available for rental, this will be announced separately. Registration continues towards the summer 2026 competition weekend at jukola.com.
